How
does IPL hair reduction work?
Intense Pulsed Light Hair reduction works by penetrating the
top layer of the skin (epidermis) with a specific wavelength
of light that targets to reach the dermis underneath where
the hair follicle resides. IPL Hair reduction,
also known as photo epilation, specifically targets the hair
follicle during the growth stage, destroying, or severely restricting
its regrowth capacity.
How many treatments will I need?
As at any given time during the hair cycle different follicles
may be either dormant or active, therefore several treatments
are required to effectively cover the treated area. An average
of 6 – 8 treatments are needed with 6 week intervals between
treatments.
Is the treatment painful?
The Quantum IPL uses a special cooling system to protect the
epidermis, a cooling gel is also used in conjunction with this
system to decrease the trauma caused to the skin therefore
making the treatment quite tolerable. However, a topical anaesthetic
cream may be used.
What areas of the body can be treated?
Face, back, legs, chest, abdomen, arms, bikini and underarms.
At Face Today Medi-Clinic we offer a full body package, please
consult with one of our medical staff for more details.
Do I need to grow my hair for treatment?
No, not at all! As long as the hair is present in the hair follicle
itself, there is no need to have the hair showing past the
skin's surface. You can only shave hair in between treatments.
You should not remove hair by waxing, tweezing, "epilady-ing" or
any similar methods. However, you will need to shave the area
prior to treatment. IPL penetrates beneath the skin's surface
to reach and destroy the hair bulb at the base of the hair
follicle.
What hair colour and type is required?
IPL is attracted to melanin pigment deeply concentrated in the
actively growing bulb of the hair follicle, where it is able
to have maximum effect at long-term hair retardation and destruction.
Blonde hair and light ginger or red hairs do not respond to
IPL treatment due to the lack of melanin present. With our
IPL hair reduction system all skin types can be treated.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes, IPL is extremely safe in the hands of an experienced therapist.
The IPL system is able to deliver light energy (or heat) to
the skin and hair in a gentle way - unlike laser systems. The
IPL handpiece has a refrigerated cooling system built in so
that it actually cools the skin during the treatment, allowing
for maximum penetrating and protection
Are the results permanent?
Results vary depending on hair type, skin type, ethnic background
and underlying hormonal influences. |
